Groundbase vs Less Annoying CRM — two simple CRMs, one question
Less Annoying CRM and Groundbase are both simple, flat-priced CRMs for small businesses. The difference is whether your CRM should send things — email, texts, calls, invoices — or just remember them. Here's the honest comparison, including where Less Annoying CRM is the better pick.
Less Annoying CRM has spent more than a decade being the calm, honest choice in a noisy category. One price, no tiers, no upsell, and a product that does contacts, pipelines and follow-up reminders without asking you to become a CRM administrator. I like it, and a lot of what Groundbase believes about pricing, it believed first.
So this isn't a takedown. The two products agree on most things. They disagree on one question, and it's the one that should decide it for you: should your CRM send things, or just remember them?
The prices
Checked on 2026-09-29. Verify on each site before deciding; prices change.
| Less Annoying CRM | Groundbase | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $15 per user per month | $9 a month flat, or $99 a year |
| Users | Any number, $15 each, with user permissions | One person. No seats, no team accounts |
| Free trial | 30 days, no credit card | 14 days, card required, not charged until day 15 |
| Tiers | None — every feature on the one plan | None — every feature on the one plan |
| Texting | Through an integration, My Rep Chat, at $15 a month extra | Built in, through your own Twilio account (you pay Twilio's rates) |
| Opens your email program; bulk email through Mailchimp | Sent from inside the CRM through your own mailbox; campaigns through your own Resend account |
For one person, that's $180 a year against $108 (or $99 on the annual plan). For two people, Less Annoying CRM is $360 a year and Groundbase isn't an option at all, which matters more than the price.
Where Less Annoying CRM is the better pick
I'd rather name these than have you find them after signing up.
You have a team, or will soon. Less Annoying CRM does multiple users, with permissions, for $15 each. Groundbase is built for exactly one person: there's no deal owner, no shared inbox, no second login. If a partner or assistant needs their own access, Less Annoying CRM is the one of these two that does it.
You want the longest, easiest trial. Thirty days with no card beats fourteen days with one. If you're the kind of person who wants to live in a tool for a month before deciding, that's a real difference.
You want a support team. "Free support, always" is part of their pitch, and it's a team. Groundbase is one developer reading every email — responsive, but not a support desk.
You want the CRM to stay out of the way. Less Annoying CRM deliberately doesn't try to be your email client or your phone. If what you open every day is the contact list and the reminders, and you'd rather keep sending email from Gmail the way you always have, its simplicity is the feature. It has been refined for a long time, and it shows.
You need a track record. Less Annoying CRM has been around for well over a decade. Groundbase is newer and smaller. If "will this company exist in five years" is a deciding question for you, that's a fair point in their favour.
Where Groundbase is the better pick
Your CRM sends things, not just records them. In Less Annoying CRM, emailing a contact opens your email program, and the CRM logs what you tell it about. In Groundbase you write the email from the contact's page, it goes out through your own Gmail or mail server, and the reply lands back on the same page. The same is true of texts and calls: both happen inside the CRM, through your own Twilio number, with the whole conversation on the contact record.
Texting is included, not a second subscription. Less Annoying CRM's texting partner is $15 a month on top of the $15 seat. Groundbase texting costs whatever Twilio charges you per message — no platform in the middle. (What sending an SMS actually costs, with real invoices.)
Campaigns and newsletters live in the CRM. Less Annoying CRM sends you to Mailchimp for bulk email. Groundbase has email and text campaigns, drip series, and a newsletter designer built in, sent through your own Resend account. Resend's free plan is enough to start; its Pro plan is $20 USD a month for 50,000 emails. (Email and text campaigns in your CRM.)
Invoices, quotes and time tracking. Groundbase invoices the contacts already in it, takes card payments through your own Stripe account, sends quotes a customer can accept online, and turns logged time into invoice lines. I couldn't find invoicing in Less Annoying CRM's feature list; most people pair it with separate accounting software. (Invoicing inside your CRM.)
Booking links and lead forms. A public booking page for your calendar, and forms with their own link that drop new leads into the CRM with a follow-up task.
Your AI can drive it. Groundbase is also a Model Context Protocol server, so Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor can read and update your CRM directly: "text everyone tagged open-house who hasn't heard from me in a week" actually sends. (Which CRMs have MCP servers.)
It's cheaper for one person. $9 against $15 a month, $72 a year saved before counting the texting add-on.
The trade you're actually making
The honest summary is that Groundbase does more, and more is not free in effort. To text from Groundbase you connect a Twilio account; to run campaigns you connect Resend. Each takes about fifteen minutes and a few dollars of usage, and it's the reason texting doesn't carry a platform markup — but it's setup that Less Annoying CRM never asks of you, because it doesn't do those things.
So:
Pick Less Annoying CRM if:
- More than one person needs access, now or soon
- You want a 30-day trial with no card
- You'd rather keep emailing from your usual email program and texting from your phone
- You want the simplest possible tool, with a long track record and a support team behind it
Pick Groundbase if:
- It's just you, and it's staying that way
- You want email, texts, calls, campaigns and invoices to happen from inside the CRM
- You're happy to connect your own Twilio and Resend accounts to avoid paying a markup on every message
- You want your AI assistant to be able to act on your CRM, not just read it
Try it
Groundbase is $9 a month flat with a 14-day trial. If you're one person who wants the CRM to do the sending, give it two weeks. If you're a small team, or you want a CRM that stays out of your email entirely, Less Annoying CRM is a very good choice and I'd tell you so either way.
